Haemorrhoid Artery Ligation Operation (HALO)
HALO (Haemorrhoid Artery Ligation Operation) is a procedure which eradicates piles.
It has a shorter recovery time than traditional haemorrhoid procedures and most patients are back to work after 24-48 hours with minimal discomfort.
Mr Stylianides uses a miniature doppler ultrasound device to locate the arteries that are supplying the haemorrhoids. The device has a small window allowing a stitch to be placed around the artery, cutting off the blood supply to the pile. During the procedure, all the arteries supplying the piles are located and tied off. Over the next few days and weeks, the piles shrink away and the symptoms resolve.
The stitch is placed in the lower rectum where there are almost no pain nerves rather than in the anus, making it relatively painless and meaning it can be performed under mild sedation rather than a general anaesthetic. However, should patients prefer this procedure under a general anaesthetic this can be discussed with Mr Stylianides during the initial consultation.
You can book your private HALO treatment for haemorrhoids in Manchester with Mr Stylianides and your procedure can be done at Spire Manchester hospital or BMI The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle.
